2000 mm diameter Dome

Frame work for the dome was cut from 18 mm ply with a jig saw but a router would have been better for greater accuracy. More care spent on accuracy at this stage and on the base frame saves a lot of extra work later, ( why don't I listen to my own advice ?)

The whole structure was then clad with a layer of hard board and aluminium and secured with a mixture of blind rivets and stainless security screws. Originally the shutter had a sliding mechanism but the weight proved too much when the dome was revolved so now I just lift of the shutter completely .

Here is a detail of the laminated ply channel which the eight rubber castors run in. I wanted to keep the revolving parts simple but it was still a challenge to get this to work due to the slight inaccuracies that had crept in to the dome and sides.
