2000 mm diameter Dome

Construction starts with 150 mm steel box section pier inserted 800 mm into ground and aligned to North, (easier said than done as my compass was attracted to the steel even several metres away). Conduits are bent to shape and shuttering is made to form the base.

One and a half tons of concrete mixed by hand ( next time I'm using a mixer! ) and then left for several days to set fully before removing shuttering.

Frame work was pre-fabricated in four sections and then assembled on the pad. It is bolted to the pad by threaded bar that was inserted before the concrete was poured, (see photo above). The bar has large washers under the concrete to prevent it being pulled through.
